EdgeSnap 0.42: AROS and Raspberry Pi installation

On this page

EdgeSnap 0.42 does not change how windows snap: drag a window against an edge or corner and it tiles to half or a quarter of the screen. The main change is installation on AROS, with the first native package for Raspberry Pi with an aarch64 processor.

Installing on AROS without guesswork

In earlier versions, installing on AROS depended on an Installer that could not always copy the files. In 0.42 the Install icon starts the Installer only where it works. When it cannot copy, the installation falls back to the Shell. On aarch64, installation always runs by itself. The guides also explain what to do if LhA is missing.

Raspberry Pi

The release adds the native aarch64 platform for Raspberry Pi, with its own archive. The repository separates packages by architecture, so an x86_64 user does not download the wrong file.

How it is built

EdgeSnap is written in C89 and applies no patches to the system: it uses a commodity input handler and public Intuition calls. It is released under the MIT licence. The long-term goal is an edgesnap.library that the maintainers of AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS could review; for now, the commodity client is the first reference implementation.
