Telegram Amiga alpha 0.0.95, released on 7 October 2026, is a speed-focused update for the native MTProto client. Its main change is keeping several file-transfer parts in flight at once. In documented tests on real hardware, transfers roughly doubled on a Vampire, while MorphOS also saw a substantial gain on 4 MB files.
Version 0.0.95 ships for all six project targets: AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4.x, MorphOS, AROS i386, AROS x86_64 and AROS aarch64. Results depend on the CPU, TCP/IP stack, server and network. These are measured test results, not a guarantee that every setup will reach the same speed.
Downloads: several requests at a time
Previously, each file part waited for the server’s reply before the next one was sent. The client now keeps a window of requests active: four on 68k systems, two on the low-memory 68000 build and eight on other targets. Download replies can arrive out of order, so early parts are buffered and written in the correct sequence.
- On a Vampire, the TUI client goes from 97 to 191 KB/s in the download test. Telegram’s wait per 32 KiB part falls from about 147 ms to about 1 ms.
- On real MorphOS hardware, a 4 MB file downloads at roughly 1.35-1.6 MB/s. In September, about 88 ms of each 64 KiB part was spent waiting for the server.
- On a desktop, a 4 MB test file takes 1.8 seconds instead of 8.6 with four requests, and about 0.85 seconds with eight.
Uploads use a similar window and track parts that have not yet been acknowledged. If a server response looks unusual, the client closes the connection and safely retries from the first unconfirmed part. In the Vampire test, 2 MB uploads rise from 112 to 213 KB/s; on MorphOS, a 4 MB upload reaches about 530-590 KB/s, up from around 210 KB/s. Each test upload was downloaded again and checked against its original.
A first launch that gets to the window sooner
On a first launch, opening a chat with a photo hosted on another Telegram datacenter required a cryptographic key exchange first. On a 14 MHz 68030, a WinUAE test took 89 seconds to show the window, 74 of them before anything appeared. The window now shows after about 14 seconds; the photo-related exchange continues afterwards, once per datacenter. The work still happens, but it no longer blocks the interface before it appears.
Full-size photos, as an explicit choice
The Settings menu now includes Full-size photos, off by default. The viewer can open larger copies, up to 1024 pixels on 68k and 2048 elsewhere, scaled to fit the screen. Save photo as… can save the original kept by Telegram, up to 2560 pixels for some uploads, including progressive JPEGs the viewer cannot display.
On a 68k machine this means longer downloads and a few extra megabytes while the viewer is open. That is why the option is explicit and disabled by default; it is not something to enable blindly on a low-memory system.
Other useful changes
The TUI can now read commands from a script or redirected input, which also makes repeatable tests possible without keyboard input. The release also improves how unknown emoji are rendered and includes checks for parallel-transfer ordering and recovery after an unexpected reply.
