Telegram Amiga Alpha 0.0.99 is available on Aminet and GitHub in seven packages for the Amiga family. This version brings together requests received after 0.0.98: hiding group messages, choosing more reactions, improving dark-theme contrast and making the text client easier to use, including on the 68000. It is the last planned alpha before 0.1 beta, not an already released beta or a promised date.
Telegram Amiga is my unofficial Telegram client, written from scratch using MTProto, with a native Intuition/GadTools interface and a console client. It remains free and open source under the MIT licence. It is not developed by Telegram and requires an existing Telegram account: it cannot create one yet.
Reactions beyond the first grid
When a chat allows more reactions than the initial grid holds, its last cell becomes an arrow. Opening it shows every permitted reaction in ten columns: in unrestricted chats, these are the 69 free reactions in Telegram’s order; groups with their own list show that entire list. This does not unlock Premium or custom reactions.
I have added 38 emoji from the same Noto Emoji set to the graphic sheet, including the exploding head, clown, whale, trophy, ghost, unicorn and the three monkeys. They appear in messages and reactions and at the end of the emoji panel; the TUI represents them as short words. /reactions lists the names, and /react accepts every supported standard reaction.
Hiding a message is not deleting it for everyone
The right-button menu on other people’s messages in groups and channels now offers Hide message. The message leaves the transcript and stays hidden on later reloads. The local list retains the newest 256 hidden-message entries; Show hidden messages, in the chat’s menu in the list, makes them visible again.
The distinction matters: in supergroups and channels this is a local filter, not deletion from Telegram’s servers or other people’s devices. In basic groups the client also asks Telegram to delete the message for your own account: it can therefore disappear from your other devices too, and that deletion cannot be undone. Restoring local visibility cannot recover what Telegram deleted. The TUI provides /hide, targeting the last received message or an explicit id, and /unhide.
Three practical improvements for the TUI and 68000
/ring onand/ring offenable or disable the open chat’s sound. Groups and channels have started quiet since 0.0.98: the text-only 68000 package can now enable them too. The choice is shared with the GUI; in direct chats the commands unmute or mute the chat./ringreports the state, taking Telegram’s mute and/bellinto account./idsenables message identifiers such as#4821before each message, useful for/react,/forwardand/forwardto. They are hidden by default.- A quick reaction no longer requires remembering a number:
/react hearttargets the last message received from someone else, never your own. Typing just/shows every command from/helpin four lines of at most 64 columns.
Fixes that keep actions on the intended message
With a full transcript, an arriving message moved the rows while a menu or reaction grid was open. An action could land on the message below: not just a reaction, but Reply, Edit, Delete, Download or Copy too. The menu now finds its message by identifier and closes if that message is no longer loaded.
A second problem made reactions on photos, files and messages with link previews disappear from view after history refreshed. The reader had not reached their reactions field and treated it as an absence of reactions. It now preserves the available state and asks Telegram for missing reactions, including on your own messages; opening a chat triggers that request immediately instead of waiting for the twenty-second periodic check.
More contrast and cleaner edges
The dark theme keeps its hues but separates incoming bubbles, side panel and background more clearly. The selected chat uses the desktop’s selection blue; sender names, read ticks and the unread counter are easier to see. On true-colour screens I have also corrected the edges of reaction chips, badges, the jump button and initials discs, removing the dark-rim effect. Paletted screens keep the hard edge.
Download Alpha 0.0.99: seven packages
Choose the package for your system. Every Aminet page below lists version 0.0.99; GitHub provides the matching ZIP archives. Packages include IT/EN manuals and the changelog.
| Platform | Aminet 0.0.99 | GitHub 0.0.99 |
|---|---|---|
| AmigaOS 3.x, 68020+ | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
| AmigaOS 3.x, 68000 (TUI) | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
| AmigaOS 4.x | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
| MorphOS | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
| AROS i386 ABIv0 | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
| AROS x86_64 | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
| AROS ARM64, Raspberry Pi | Aminet / LHA | GitHub / ZIP |
AmigaOS 3.x with the GUI needs a 68020 or better; the plain-68000 package contains only the TUI, needs about 2 MB of free Fast RAM and requires the first login to be prepared on a faster Amiga or in an emulator. AROS i386 targets ABIv0; x86_64 needs a trunk-SDK-matched system and does not run with AROS One v0.38’s different kickstart. ARM64 targets native AROS on Raspberry Pi 4, 400 and 5, from the August 22, 2026 image onwards.
Voluntary support and what comes next
The window’s Telegram menu, after Help, now includes Support development…: it opens my Patreon or copies the link if OpenURL is absent. The same two lines appear at the end of /help. It never appears on its own, and nothing changes for people who do not contribute. The software, code and articles remain public; the website also offers one-time contributions through Ko-fi.
Thank you to everyone sending reports and tests; the plain-68000 package owes a particular debt to Paolo Arus, DaRkHoRaCe, for his persistent testing on an A600. Carlo Spadoni’s optimised icons and their credits remain part of the project.
This overview is based on the published tag’s changelog and source: I verified versions, archives and links, rather than running new tests on all seven systems for this article. Later work on main, including the download.bin filename fix, remains separate from downloadable 0.0.99. For the earlier story, see the development diary through 0.0.98; the beta still needs field reports and real-system validation.
